OUR PEOPLE

Each set of hands that works to ensure we deliver Quinlan Quality to our customers is critical to our success. Whether those hands pull a net, shovel ice, or answer the phone, without them there would be no Quinlan. We salute each and every one of our people over the last 70 years who have worked to make Quinlan what it is today.

OUR VALUES

Sustainability

We understand maintaining healthy oceans is essential to the success of all fisheries. Everything we do has environmental sustainability in mind. Our people owe their livelihoods to the sea, and we take that to heart. When it comes to our fisheries, we know the future is ours to protect and, for everything it has provided for our people, the ocean deserves our utmost respect.

Our snow crab and shrimp fisheries have earned the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Chain of Custody Standard Certification – the world’s leading certification for sustainable seafood.

Innovation

A culture of continuous improvement filters throughout our organization – from stem to stern. Constantly searching for ways to improve efficiency requires investment in research and development, the adoption of new technologies onboard vessels and in our plants, and, most importantly, in our people.

By empowering people and embracing advancements in technology and innovative practices, Quinlan has been strategic in building a strong sustainable business to support future generations.

Relationship Building

People are at the centre of everything we do. We strive to show our people they are valued by creating an inclusive and community-minded culture. Many of our employees have been with us for decades. We have long standing relationships with local harvesters who are also key to our success.

Our rock-solid relationships with our many buyers around the world are built on trust and professionalism. That is why they request Quinlan Quality year after year.

Quality
Obsessed

The cold, crisp waters of the North Atlantic produce some of the highest quality seafood in the world. To produce this excellence, it isn’t enough to just be strategically located at the ocean’s edge, affording minimal catch-to-processing times. It takes commitment throughout the entire process from harvesting to processing to shipping. It requires the people at every step of the process to be committed to the cause. That’s what makes Quinlan Quality different.

Quinlan facilities employ a Quality Management Program (QMP) and are Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certified which has led to our BRC AA certification – the highest achievable grade for food safety.

OUR HISTORY

Robin Quinlan holding best managed companies award

With President & CEO Robin Quinlan at the helm, the company is navigated by a third generation of Quinlans. While methods and technologies in harvesting and processing have changed, the company’s mission and values never will. It has always been, and will always be, about providing the highest quality seafood products to our valued customers and maintaining solid relationships with all stakeholders from harvester to buyer, and everyone between.

In 1954, brothers Maurice and Patrick Quinlan of Bay de Verde created a fish buying station, selling fish landed on the nearby shores to other processing companies. Over the next seven decades, Quinlan Brothers Ltd. evolved into one of the largest seafood producers in Newfoundland & Labrador. A major player on the global fishing stage, Quinlan exports multi-species products to more than 20 countries worldwide.

In 2016, a fire destroyed the Snow Crab processing facility in Bay de Verde. This proved to be a pivotal moment for the company as the leadership team was faced with the decision to rebuild and continue to employ and support hundreds of people or shut down operations. Ultimately, the leadership team decided to rebuild and, just 12 months from the date of the fire, Quinlan was processing crab in the largest and most technologically advanced Snow Crab processing facility in the world.

In 2017, visionary founder Pat Quinlan was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Turning the Tide Marine Industry Awards. His leadership has driven Quinlan for decades as we have grown and evolved in our industry and community.
